When my mom was here recently we worked on baby bootees. (Her's looked super) Here is the pair I made. Unfortunately I used some self striping sock yarn and the bootees don't match at all. I had forgot that the widths of the stripes varied so greatly.
So what should I do:
- They look fine to me (I would be happy to receive them as a gift) Sew those buttons on them and be finished.
- Donate them to a charity (I hate donating things that don't look nice)
- They look weird/ugly, don't waste the buttons!
- Try making one more bootee and see if it matches one or the other.
Note: If the verdict is #3, I'm not going to bother frogging them for the little bit of yarn.
Thanks for your help!!!
Ooh, this is tough. 1, 2, and 4 sound like good options to me. As a spectator, I'd love to see you do 4, because I wonder what would happen! But I think if I had a kid, I'd totally love to receive them as a gift, so 1 and 2 are viable options. Can't wait to see what you decide. =)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ashpags - I think they're still a lovely gift! I also think options 2 or 4 or fine. I'd be really interested to see a new one would match of them.
ReplyDelete1 or 2. But I have to agree with the other two-it would be fun to se how a third one turned out :)
ReplyDeleteI hate these dilemmas. Personally I think you should knit one more.....wouldn't they be great for shower favors? With candy in them?
ReplyDeleteWell, since you asked, (you're calling me out of lurkdom to answer)....I am a fan of all things mismatched. I like opposite striped things, like the Hanna Andersson dresses you may have seen. (The ones my daughter lived in!) I think the booties are varied just enough to look almost planned, and I wouldn't change a thing!
ReplyDeleteBtw, I really enjoyed your magic loop tutorial, and am looking forward to the 2-at-a-time part. I do it, but have some trouble, and love to see how other people are managing.
Happy Knitting!
Marissa
I vote option #1 and add a bib using varigated blue. It will pull the gift together and make it an ensomble. Check out my notebook on ravlery. I have made some cute fast bibs that would do the job.
ReplyDeleteLeah, I am thinking 1 as well.
ReplyDeleteBut if you felt like making a third why not just make 2 more, then at least you'd have a second set to give as a gift, right?
I vote for option 1!
ReplyDeleteHee, I guess number one. But I think they're cute. Why not try two different buttons. For example the shoe that has more light blue, put a dark blue button on, and then a light blue button onto the darker shoe. That way, the recipient will think that is the way its suppose to be!
ReplyDeleteJust a crazy suggestion!!
Suzanne
I vote for number 4 but then you know me and how I like matching. Love you, Mom
ReplyDeleteI actually like that they are a little different - but I like that with my own socks I knit.....I say put the button on & go with it....
ReplyDeleteThe baby will not care, and they are going to grow out of them, so #1. Just like socks, they do not have have to be perfect twins.
ReplyDeleteI think it's silly to throw them away. Fraternal foot wear is all the rage now. Unmatched socks, shoes, etc. Just gift them.
ReplyDeleteThey look fine to me, but I don't know if they would be appreciated by a non-knitter. I'd put these away for now and knit a brand new matching pair to give as a gift.
ReplyDelete1 and 2 :)
ReplyDeleteI think they look really cute the way they are, but I'd say make the third if you have yarn and send along the two that look cutest together.
ReplyDelete#1 or if you're feeling up to it...#4
ReplyDeleteI like Jennifer's suggestion of making a bib to match and pull it all together... :-)
